Odd Anatomy of a Story

Mark Dekanich and Dawn

Only in the world of Web 2.0 social networks could something like this happen.

Jackson and I have become Facebook “friends” with a nice lady in Milwaukee named Dawn Scott who is probably the Admiral’s biggest fan. She lives and dies with each ebb and flow of the Ad’s season. Needless to say she’s been flowing a lot more this year with Milwaukee running away with the Western Division crown.

Anyway, at times Jackson and I have felt that Dawn was holding us personally responsible for the numerous call ups the Predators have made from Milwaukee, especially lately. Questions like “Why did you take away ____?” or “When are you going to send ____ back?” have been common.

Dawn is one of the more active members of the Admiral’s Crew for the fan club, attending every game and function. By being around all the time, she has gotten to know most of the players on a minimum of a conversational level and some better than that.

Dawn relates, “I got to know the players just by talking to them. They are all really easy to talk to. I just love the game of hockey for the action and the fights too. And I really like it that the players are all really nice and easy to talk to. They really care about their fans, something you don't find in a lot of other sports”.

She has also set up Fan Clubs for most of the Admiral Players on Facebook. She really has a penchant for goalies with Mark Dekanich and Drew MacIntyre being her favorites. Dawn does not leave her old favorites behind, “I like the other players as well, but the goalies will always be #1 to me. I still LOVE Pekka and always will! I am so proud of that boy!!”

So, as the world becomes smaller through the connectivity of the internet and all it’s social devices, “inside information” that used to be the sole property of connected mainstream media types now flows down to individuals with “friends” in far reaching places.

Thanks to Dawn for giving Jackson the heads up on one of his favorite players returning to the Predators. And as Dawn specifically asked, I’m sure “we” “will take good care of him” while he is here.

Oh, and by the way, Welcome back Jed! Dawn say’s "Hey!"
